Degree: Bachelor of Fine Arts
Major: Fine Arts
Concentration: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking
Effective Term: Fall 2017
The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the University of North Florida. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses in the right-hand column are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.

The BFA Studio Art Program offers a concentration in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking (PDP). Our curriculum addresses technical and material means of visual expression while also focusing on issues inherent in each student's work. We encourage research, critical thinking, and a commitment to creatiivity on the part of the student. Our goal as a faculty is to enable students to reach a higher degree of excellence. Please visit the Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking webpage for more information. Click on the Students tab of the Career Services webpage for major exploration information.

Students should refer to their personalized Degree Evaluation provided by an advisor and to other university resources for additional university and college-specific policies. Visit the undergraduate university catalog for more information.

Summer terms may be utilized to facilitate graduation in four years.

  • Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies UNF general education and Gordon Rule requirements. Math selection for First Time in College (FTIC) students is contingent upon Math Placement exam results, the student’s major and credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc).

  • Students pursuing the BFA with a painting/drawing/printmaking concentration should include their prerequisite courses every semester until completion.

  • The Art faculty strongly recommend taking ART1205C Color Theory and ART2400C Intro to Printmaking as the introductory media course program prerequisites. These courses prepare students for specific courses in the major. ART2400C Intro to Printmaking is a prerequisite for required printmaking coursework.

  • Students may take Art Electives within their individual area of focus: Painting, Drawing or Printmaking. Faculty recommend the following Art Electives: ART4805C Painting and Drawing Research, ART3504C Painting III, ART 3443C Relief Printmaking I, ART 3433C Screenprint I, ART 4444C Intaglio Printmaking II, ART 4421C Lithography Printmaking II, ART 4445C Relief Printmaking II, ART 4434C Screenprint II, ART3560C Figurative Painting, ART 3930 Special Topics in Art (with department approval), and ART 4905 Directed Individual Studies (with department approval). Check with an academic advisor or the university catalog for maximum repeatability credit for these Art Electives.

  • Faculty recommend the following Art History courses: ARH3453 Post War Art 1940-1980 or ARH3475 Contemporary Art.

  • Fine Arts students are encouraged to undertake an international educational experience (Study Abroad). Visit the International Center's Study Abroad webpage for additional information.

  • Independent study courses in any fine arts area require prior approval of the department chairperson.

  • Department of Art and Design first day attendance rule: any student who misses the first day without advanced notice to a department representative will be administratively dropped from the course.

  • A minimum of 120 hours (48 hours at the upper 3000/4000 level) is required for the bachelor's degree. Students may need to complete Free Elective credit at the upper level (3000/4000) to satisfy the minimum 48 semester hours of upper level hours for graduation. For additional information, visit the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office webpage.
