The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the University of North Florida. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses in the right-hand column are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.

The BFA Studio Art Programs offer two-dimensional concentrations in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking. Our studio curriculum addresses technical and material means of visual expression while also focusing on issues inherent in one's work. We encourage a spirit of search, critical thinking and creative commitment on the part of each student. Our goal as a faculty is to enable students to go beyond mere competence and proficiency to a higher degree of excellence. Visit the Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking webpage for more information. Click on the Students tab of the Career Services webpage for major exploration information.

Students should refer to their personalized Degree Evaluation provided by an advisor and to other university resources for additional university and college-specific policies.Visit the undergraduate university catalog for more information.

Summer terms may be utilized to facilitate graduation in four years.

  • Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. Fine Arts majors will satisfy 3 semester hours of General Education Humanities (Non Applied Fine Art) with Program Prerequisites. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies UNF general education and Gordon Rule requirements. General Education Math selection for First Time in College (FTIC) students is contingent upon Math Placement exam results, SAT/ACT math scores, the student’s major and/or credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc). All freshmen and sophomores (students with 0-59 credit hours) should consult their academic advisor in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) or the UNF Honors Program.

  • Students pursuing the BFA with a painting/drawing/printmaking concentration should include their prerequisite courses every semester until completion.

  • The Art faculty strongly recommend taking ART2400C Intro to Printmaking and ART1205C Color Theory as the introductory media course program prerequisites. These courses prepare students for specific courses in the major. ART2400C Intro to Printmaking is a prerequisite for required printmaking coursework.

  • Faculty recommend the following courses for Printmaking Major Electives: ART 3433C Screenprint I, ART 3443C Relief Printmaking I, ART 4444C Intaglio II (repeatable up to 9 credits), ART 4421C Lithography II (repeatable up to 9 credits), ART 4445C Relief Printmaking II (repeatable up to 9 credits), ART 4434C Screenprint II (repeatable up to 9 credits), ART 3930 Special Topics in Art (with department approval), ART 4905 Directed Individual Studies (with department approval).

  • Fine Arts students are encouraged to undertake an international educational experience (Study Abroad). Visit the International Center's Study Abroad webpage for additional information.

  • Independent study courses in any fine arts area require prior approval of the department chairperson.

  • Department of Art and Design first day attendance rule: any student who misses the first day without advanced notice to a department representative will be administratively dropped from the course.

  • A minimum of 120 hours (48 hours at the upper 3000/4000 level) is required for the bachelor's degree. Students may need to complete Free Elective credit at the upper level (3000/4000) to satisfy the minimum 48 semester hours of upper level hours for graduation. For additional information, visit the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office webpage.
