College: Brooks College of Health
Degree: BS in Athletic Training
Major: Athletic Training
Effective Term: Fall 2009
The Osprey Map provides a term-by-term sample schedule for each undergraduate academic program at the University of North Florida. It is designed to guide students in the selection of courses each term. The "Mile Marker" courses in the right-hand column are those courses that should be completed before or by the end of that term. Following the sample schedule, and completing the mile marker courses at the appropriate point of your undergraduate career, will facilitate graduation in four years. The term-by-term model assumes full-time enrollment. For students enrolled part-time, the sample schedule and mile markers should be followed based on the number of credits completed. The Osprey Map should be used in consultation with an academic advisor.

The Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training (BSAT) prepares students for entry-level careers in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and conditions among patients and athletes. Click on the Students tab of the Career Services webpage for major exploration and employment information. In addition to the degree requirements listed below, the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) requires a clinical component. The clinical component provides hands-on experience in clinical settings including area outpatient orthopedic clinics, high schools, professional teams, and intercollegiate teams at UNF and Jacksonville University.

Students should refer to their personalized Degree Evaluation provided by an academic advisor and to other university resources for additional university and college-specific policies and procedures. Visit the undergraduate university catalog for more information.

Summer terms may be utilized to facilitate graduation in four years.
  • Visit the university catalog for a list of General Education requirements. An Associate in Arts (AA) degree from a Florida public university, state college or community college satisfies UNF general education and Gordon Rule requirements. General Education Math selection for First Time in College (FTIC) students is contingent upon Math Placement exam results, SAT/ACT math scores, the student’s major and/or credit received through accelerated mechanisms (Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Enrollment, etc). ATEP students will satisfy the six semester hours of General Education Mathematics, three of the six semester hours of Social Science, and six semester hours of Natural Science with required Program Prerequisites. All freshmen and sophomores (students with 0-59 credit hours) should consult their academic advisor in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) or the UNF Honors Program.

  • Visit the Athletic Training Education Program webpage for a complete list of ATEP prerequisites. Students may complete either MAC 1147 (Precalculus) OR MAC 1105 (College Algebra) and MAC 1114 (Trigonometry) for preparation to required Prerequisite PHY 2053/2053L (Algebra-based Physics I with Laboratory.)

  • All Prerequisite and General Education courses, CLAS and Gordon Rule requirements must be completed prior to acceptance into the ATEP at the start of Term 5. Students must have 60 earned hours prior to admission. Students must have a minimum 2.80 overall GPA and a minimum "C" grade in prerequisite courses with a 2.80 overall prerequisite GPA to be considered for admission into this limited-access major. Program admission requires a decision by a college administrator or faculty member. Students are not guaranteed admission into this program, and can not degree progress into Term 5 (61-75 hours) until admitted into this program. Find specific admission criteria for this program on your Degree Evaluation, college website, university catalog or consult your academic advisor.

  • PET 3603C and HSC 4612 may be completed prior to acceptance into the ATEP. All other courses in Term 5 - Term 8 must be completed in the term indicated. These courses are offered once per year. For more information contact the ATEP Director, or the Brooks College of Health Advising Office. The ATEP provides the coursework required by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

  • Students must earn additional Free Elective credit if needed to meet 60 semester hours required for junior level status and to satisfy the university minimum 120 total semester hours (minimum of 48 upper level hours 3000/4000 level) for graduation.
